Extensus
Extensus is a study association in Amsterdam that was founded by students in 2009. Initially, it was restricted to honours students of the Vrije Universiteit (VU). In 2011, the organisation was expanded to include the University of Amsterdam (UvA). This allows Honours students from both universities to take part in a variety of interdisciplinary courses.
The organisation is a great way to meet new friends and get involved with the Amsterdam Honours Programme. It organizes a variety of events, including study trips, lectures, seminars, and professional networking opportunities.
Aureus
Aureus is an association of students and faculty members of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. It is one of the largest study associations in the country with over 5000 members. The association is best known for its study support services and social activities.
Although the name Aureus might suggest an emphasis on Economics, it is also home to other fields such as Business Administration, International Business Administration, Media and Communication and Behavioral Science. Some of the best study support options are available through the student union and faculty association. Likewise, students can join student associations like Aureus and Kraket, which aim to provide extracurricular activities and networking opportunities.
ESN Amsterdam
The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is a student organization that offers support to exchange students. In total, the organisation works with over 1000 international students every year. Various services are provided by the organisation including general information, specific study programme information and social activities.
As part of the ESN, the University of Amsterdam has its own local section. There are 452 sections in 37 countries. The ESN is a non-profit organization, with all of its employees working for the good of the organisation. A membership fee of five euros gives you the opportunity to attend a number of events and receive discounts at various Amsterdam attractions.
Sarphati’s
Sarphati Amsterdam is a collaboration between the Amsterdam Public Health Service and research institutions. It focuses on preventing non-communicable diseases. This research group conducts innovative, multidisciplinary research.
The Amsterdam Healthy Weight Approach (AHWA) aims to modify the social and physical environments to promote healthier behaviors. It targets children in primary schools from disadvantaged neighborhoods in Amsterdam.
AHWA is guided by city-level data that describes dietary habits and environment influences. This is used to inform program development. AHWA actions are aimed at reducing the proportion of overweight and obese children in Amsterdam.
A.L.F.A.
In terms of technology, the first iteration of the A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) had the distinction of producing the fabled first automobile. However, the company would soon be eclipsed by its German counterparts. After being acquired in 1915, Nicola Romeo turned the factory’s attention to locomotives and railway carriages. This led to the company’s downfall, but not before it had re-invented itself as a major player in the high-end road car industry.
ACD
The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) is the smallest of the three largest universities in the Netherlands. This university is a research-based institution that focuses on academic excellence.

Founded in 2010, AUCSA provides an organizational framework for student committees and helps create an active and interactive social community. The association also serves as a platform for social activism.
In addition to the many social and academic events organized by AUCSA, it also manages more than 30 committees. Students can participate in these committees and suggest their own.
ISN
The International Student Network (ISN) in Amsterdam is a student run organisation that aims to make your stay in the Netherlands a more enjoyable experience. ISN is funded by Universiteit van Amsterdam and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. During your time in Amsterdam, you can take part in the many recreational and educational activities that are on offer.
